Affliction, UFC Weigh-Ins Free For All
Not only is UFC counter-programming Affliction: Banned with a card headlined by Anderson Silva jumping up to 205 ,their even countering the weigh-ins by having theirs on the same day and also open to the public. Here’s the scoop on both weigh-ins.
Affliction: Banned is set for July 19th at the Honda Center in Anaheim Califorina, and the weigh-ins will be one day previous(July 18th) also at the Honda Center. The event opens at 2 pm and the first fighter should weigh in around 3 pm and as previously noted this event is both free and open to the public. 22 high level fighters, including a who’s who of top 10 heavyweights will check in and then eat up to get back to their more “normal weights”. Keep in mind this event can’t be seen on tv, as it’s not aired at all. The MMA News will provide all live results for the main show on July 19th, and will of course be reporting on the weigh-ins as well.
Affliction: Banned features an epic match-up between Tim Sylvia and the #1 heavyweight(and some would argue pound for pound #1) in the world, Fedor Emelianenko. This event marks the first forray into MMA for Affliction Clothing, and also for Donald Trump as well.
On the opposite side of the coin, the UFC has arranged the weigh-ins for UFC Fight Night 14 to take place at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada and will also make this event both free and open to the public. Most MMA fans are virilently getting ready to tivo UFC Fight Night and purchase Affliction: Banned and thus be in near MMA heaven. This event will open doors around 4 pm and the fighters should begin weigh-ins around 5.
UFC Fight Night 14features UFC Middleweight Champ Anderson Silva jumping up to light heavyweight to take on James Irvin. Irvin in his role as spoiler could become the first person to beat Silva, something that would certainly catapult his career to new heights. UFC Fight Night 14 has no where near as strong a card as Affliction Banned, but as the event will be aired on Spike TV for Free it can be excused somewhat for having a total of 6 bouts including a leaner Brandon Vera trying the waters at 205.
Look for UFC Fight Night 14 on July 19th on Spike TV, or the Live Results on The MMA News.
