Alistair Overeem Victorious At 'Ultimate Glory 11' Event In Amsterdam

On Saturday night, Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem defeated an out matched American, Tony Sylvester, in Amerstdam during the first round of a mixed martial arts bout at Golden Glory’s ‘Ultimate Glory 11′ event.

For a fighter who hasn’t fought under the Strikeforce banner since winning his belt in 2007, Overeem looked overpowering as he finished Sylvester via submission early in the first round.

The native of Holland delivered several knees to his opponents head in the opening moments of the fight, knocking Sylvester down to the canvas, and letting him back up only to finish him with a standing guillotine choke in a fight that barely lasted a minute and a half.

This improves Overeem’s MMA record to 30-11 and will hopefully seem him run out of excuses to see him defend his Strikeforce title for the first time. Before he can do that though, he’ll fight again next weekend at Dream 12 against an unnamed opponent, and then compete in a kick boxing event in the K-1 World Grand Prix 2009 Final in December.

Depending on which heavyweight is victorious on November 7, and if the stars align properly, we may see Overeem defend his belt in the New Year against Fedor Emelianenko or Brett Rogers.
