fedor-broken-nose_200.jpg The now 31-1(1) Fedor Emelianenko made his Strikeforce debut on Saturday night defeating much heavier opponent Brett Rogers, 32 pounds at the weigh-ins, at 1:48 of the second round by TKO in their main event match.

Emelianenko’s victory did come at a cost though, the Russian suffered a broken nose and an injured left hand.

According to Sherdog.com the WAMMA heavyweight champion went to a local hospital for treatment and returned with a soft cast up to his elbow.

After attending a post-fight press conference, Emelianenko was sent to local hospital. He returned later the same evening with his left arm in a soft cast nearly up to his elbow.

The source said the first examination could not determine if Emelianenko had broken bones in his hand, but that the Russian is expected to visit a doctor again Sunday to further assess the damage.

UPDATE:

A member of Emelianenko’s camp says the Russian heavyweight did not break his nose in his fight against Rogers but may have dislocate his thumb according to MMAWeekly.com.

Steven Bash, Emelianenko’s translator and American representative, said Sunday that the jab caused a deep cut to his nose, but did not damage it in any other way.

Bash confirmed that Emelianenko injured his left hand and may have dislocated his thumb requiring it to be popped back into place. The Russian heavyweight was later outfitted with a soft cast at a Chicago area hospital.
