With the first collaboration between Strikeforce, M-1 Global, and CBS finished, one has to think that the respective companies are quite happy with the end results. Here’s our take on the night, in our usual column we call “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.”

The Good

Free, Free, Free.

The main event bout between Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers lived up to the hype and the finish certainly will go a long way towards bringing Fedor more mainstream approval. Rogers seemed to have a bright future in the league, and in losing he still looked very impressive. Over the fight was certainly the bright point in the night.

Fedor continues to speak(through a translator mind you) with a humility that many other MMA fighters could learn for. Fedor deserves some respect just for his consummate professionalism, and his lack of trash talk.

Fabricio Werdun came in much better shape, looking no where near as “doughy” as he did in his loss to Junior Dos Santos. It seems like a possible showdown between Werdun and Emelianenko’s on the horizon which should be a good one.

Jason “Mayhem” Miller’s entrance was exciting, and he brought some lacking showmanship to the night.

The applause for “Big” John McCarthy was a thing of beauty and completely justified. McCarthy is still the best in the business.

The Bad

The commentating was hard to listen to at times, with Shamrock providing the most useful insight, but with a lackluster quality and general lack of knowledge certainly pervading the telecast.

The five round fight between Jake Shields and Mayhem Miller, while a grappling exercise, was tedious and seemed at times to stall considerably. Despite the solid ground skills of both fighters, the hold downs by Shields seemed to drag on. Shields gained the victory, but certainly didn’t garner any fans.

The only fight that aired the walk to the ring was the Shields-Miller bout but one would think that the main event would have had a nice introduction before the fight, especially with all the time wasting in-between the two(see ugly).

The Ugly

Can anyone say “fifteen minutes of commercials?” After the Shields vs. Mayhem bout there was a fifteen minute lag until the main event. Wow.

It would be nice, if at some point, there could be a translator that can speak both Russian and English fluently. The post fight interview was hard to handle, and at times didn’t seem to make any sense.

Brett Rogers comments after the knockout seemed to cast him as a bit of a poor sport. Hopefully with time he’ll learn to give people their due.

Overall the event was a good one, providing some high quality bouts at the dirt cheap price of free. Hopefully the ratings will result in more of these shows being put on.
