UFC Fight Night 20 Officially Announced
On Monday, UFC officials officially announced the UFC Fight Night 20 event naming lightweight bouts between Nate Diaz (15-4) vs. Gray Maynard (9-0 (1)), and Efrain Escudero (12-0) vs. Evan Dunham (9-0) as the co-headliners for the show.
The event will take place at the Patriot Center at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. on Jan. 11 and will air live on Spike TV.
Diaz bounced with a win over Melvin Guillard at UFN 19 after back-to-back losses to Joe Stevenson and Clay Guida. The former TUF season 5 winner has won five “Fight Night” bonuses in a row which includes three “Fight of the Night” and two “Submission of the Night” awards.
Maynard, another season 5 TUF fighter, will put his nine fight undefeated streak on the line against Diaz. Five of his last nine victories have all come via decision, earning a split decision over Roger Huerta in his last match, as well as four straight unanimous victories.
Escudero is another undefeated lightweight who will put his record on the line on Jan. 11. Escudero is another TUF alum as he earned a six figure contract with the UFC after winning season 8 of the reality show. In his two bouts with the UFC, the Mexican born fighter has defeated Cole Miller and Philipe Nover.
Dunham, also undefeated, is the only one of the four lightweights who didn’t earn his way into the UFC via the TUF show. The Xtreme Couture fighter has earned victories over Per Eklund and Marcus Aurelio in both of his UFC bouts.
