“UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin” Bonuses And Gate Totals
Saturday’s “UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin” event took place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. During the post-fight press conference UFC president Dana White announced the “Fight Night” bonuses and the gate totals for the event.
Josh Koscheck, Anthony Johnson, and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira all walked away with $70,000 “Fight Night” bonuses after their performances in the octagon.
Koscheck’s earned the “Submission of the Night” bonus for stopping Johnson in the co-main event during the second round by locking in a rear-naked choke. Both fighters also earned the “Fight of the Night” bonus, edging out main event headliners Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin for the award. Koscheck and Johnson each earned $140,000 in bonuses.
Nogueira’s first performance in the UFC octagon earned the “Knockout of the Night” bonus after his first round knockout of light-heavyweight Luiz Cane during the PPV portion of the event. It was the first time Cane was ever knocked out in his professional career.
A total of 10,529 fans watched the event live from the Mandalay Bay Events Center delivering a gate total of $3 million dollars. The crowd represented one of the smallest gate numbers since UFC 64 back in October of 2006. That event drew 10,173 who watched Anderson Silva defeat Rich Franklin for the UFC middleweight title.
