UFC Looking At March Date For GSP vs. Hardy Bout
On Wednesday, AOL FanHouse reported that March 11 will be the expected date for a UFC welterweight title bout between champ Georges St. Pierre (19-2) and challenger Dan Hardy (23-6(1)) in the main event for UFC 111.
Sources close to the situation told FanHouse that once agreements by both sides have been made UFC 111 will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. on March 11.
This would be GSP’s fourth straight title defense since he won the undisputed title from Matt Serra at UFC 83. St. Pierre is considered one of the best pound-for-pound mixed martial artists in the world, who’s popularity has spilled over into major sponsorship deals with Gatorade and with the Under Armor clothing company. The champ’s last bout was at UFC 100 where he defeated Thiago Alves handily during the five rounds of their bout. St. Pierre suffered a groin injury in that fight and has been rehabbing the injury since. The welterweight champ talked about being 100% earlier this month.
Hardy has won seven straight matches, including four straight within the UFC to earn the next title shot. He last competed at UFC 105 earlier this month, defeating Mike Swick via unanimous decision to earn the No. 1 contender status.
