Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal And Mike Whitehead To Fight At Heavyweight
Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal (5-0) recently announced Mike Whitehead (24-7) as his next opponent in his debut bout for the Strikeforce promotion on Dec. 19. The only thing that wasn’t know was the weight class for the match-up.
Both fighters have fought at light-heavyweight and heavyweight in the past. FiveOuncesOfPain.com broke the news on Friday, saying the bout will take place in the heavyweight division.
Lawal, a Big 12 Champion and Division I All-American wrestler out of Oklahoma State, has gained some notoriety in the past year as a skilled fighter and as someone who can make a “flashy” entrance. ‘King Mo’ fought in the heavyweight class in his last bout, smashing Mark Kerr in just 25 seconds of their M-1 Global bout.
Whitehead has won two straight and has gone 15-1 in his past sixteen bouts. He defeated Kevin Randleman in June of this year, earning a unanimous decision victory against the ‘Monster’.
The current rumored “Strikeforce: Evolution” event appears as follows:
-
- Josh Thomson vs. interim champ Gilbert Melendez (lightweight title-unification bout)
- Cung Le vs. Scott Smith
- Matt Lindland vs. Ronald “Jacare” Souza
- Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal vs. Mike Whitehead*
- Robbie Lawler vs. TBA
- Antwain Britt vs. Scott Lighty*
* – Not yet officially announced
