WEC 45 “Fight Night” Bonuses Handed Out

dollarsign03WEC officials handed out “Fight Night” bonuses to Donald Cerrone, Ed Ratcliff, Scott Jorgensen, Takeya Mizugaki, Anthony Njokuani and Brad Pickett for their performances at Saturday’s “WEC 45: Cerrone vs. Ratcliff” Las Vegas event.

Njokuani (12-2) earned his third straight “Knockout of the Night” honor for his first-round KO of opponent Chris Horodecki (13-2). The Nigerian native was awarded $10,000 for the bonus.

“I just wanted to keep him at the end of these hands. I was setting it up.

“I was actually using the jab to work in space and set it up for other stuff. That’s what we’ve been working on.”

While the jab was effective, it was Horodecki’s inexplicable decision to walk away from an exchange that led to his demise. Njokuani admitted he was a bit shocked at the opening his opponent offered.

“I would pretty much say that was the dumbest move he made because I guy like me with long giraffe legs is going to come out from a long way,” Njokuani said. “It was very surprising for him to do that, and once I saw him take off running, I knew I had to throw that neck kick to knock him out.”

Pickett picked up the “Submission of the Night” bonus after making his WEC debut against Kyle Dietz. After out-grappling his opponent for two rounds, Picket transitioned into a rarely seen Peruvian necktie, forcing Dietz to tap. The British fighter earned $10,000 for the submission and earned his first WEC victory.

The “Fight of the Night” bonus was split between Jorgensen and Mizugaki, who both earned $5,000. Both bantamweights fought for a full three rounds, with Jorgensen earning the unanimous decision victory, earning two of three rounds over Mizugaki.
