Fabricio Werdum 99% Confirmed That He’ll Face Fedor Emelianenko Next

Britain Ultimate Fighting ChampionshipStrikeforce heavyweight Fabricio Werdum (13-4-1) say’s it’s 99% confirmed that his next opponent will be WAMMA heavyweight champion and MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko (31-1(1)).

Werdum spoke to Tatame.com about the fight.

“The fight against Fedor is 99% confirmed to April 16th. I have three months to train to the most important fight of my life”, Werdum said, confident in a victory. “I already have a strategy set. I can’t submit a guy like Fedor in the arm, in the leg, he would never tap… I’ll make history. Beat Fedor doesn’t mean I’m better than him, because he’s the man, but I’ll be better than him in that night”.

If this proves to be true, both men will most likely meet in the main event on the second CBS Strikeforce event coming up in April of this year.

Werdum has won two straight bouts, including four of five with victories over Antonio Silva, Mike Kyle, Brandon Vera, and Gabriel Gonzaga. The one loss came at the hands of Junior dos Santos in October of 2008. The Brazilian probably represents the next best opponent for Emelianenko in the Strikeforce organization besides champ Alistair Overeem, who seems reluctant to defend his title.

Emelianenko fought twice in 2009 defeating Brett Rogers in his last appearance during the first CBS Strikeforce broadcast in November. He defeating “The Grim” via TKO in the second round. His other victory was over former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski in January at the Affliction: Day of Reckoning event, where he KO’d “The Pitbull” in spectacular fashion.
