The name that comes up as Overeem’s replacement is former UFC champ Frank Mir, who is currently scheduled to face Cain Velasquez (9-1) at the same UFC 146 card next month.
If things go down and Mir is offered a title shot with JDS, Velasquez says he has no problems with th echange saying “I definitely think that’s fair.”
Speaking to the media during an official sponsorship announcement for MetroPCS Communications, Velasquez spoke about
“I definitely think that’s fair. He’s off a three-fight winning streak, and dos Santos beat me fair and square. I’m definitely mad about mine, but I know with one more fight, I’ll be in the same position. If that did come up, then yeah, I’d definitely be fine with that.”
“As far as we know right now, it’s Frank, so that’s what I’m getting ready for. But if it turned out to be different, it didn’t matter who it’d be, just as long as it’s one more to get into that same position to fight for the heavyweight title again.”
Velasquez is coming off a title loss to Dos Santos last November at the UFC on FOX 1 event, where he suffered his first defeat after being knocked out at 64-seconds of the first round. That ended a streak of seven straight wins in the Octagon, six of which ended in (T)KO victories for the former UFC champion.
