Former WEC lightweight champ Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis (15-2) was admitted into a Milwaukee hospital on Monday to receive treatment for a staph infection to his elbow.

News of Pettis condition surfaced Monday night on via Inside MMA (@InsideMMAaxstv) and was later confirmed by MMAWeekly.com who spoke with Pettis’ manager Mike Roberts.

The staph infection is reportedly, the same arm which underwent shoulder surgery this past April and had been targeting a return sometime this fall.

Pettis manager, Roberts, noted that he doesn’t think the infection was anything serious but wanted his fighter treated professionally for precautionary reasons.

‘Showtime’ is expected to meet Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone sometime in the New Year.

The long-term impact of a staph infection can be very serious as former Strikeforce light heavyweight champ Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal found out after battling a very bad infection in his knee earlier this year. Lawal underwent several intensive treatments and is back in the cage training for his Bellator debut next year.
