Earning the “Knockout of the Night” bonus was TUF 12 finalist Michael Johnson, while “Submission of the Night” went to Justin Edwards, with “Fight of the Night” going to prelim fighters Diego Nunes and Bart Palaszewski.
The television event aired in two parts, the main card on FX and the prelim card on Fuel TV.
Lightweight Michael Johnson bounced back from a first round controlled by opponent Danny Castillo to finish ‘Last Call’ by knockout at 1:06 of the second round. Castillo looked like he would finish things in the first round, securing an arm triangle choke before switching to top position for the remainder of the round. In the second, a straight left from Johnson would send Castillo to the mat and would be followed up with a few more strikes before the referee could jump in.
Justin Edwards needed just 45-seconds to submit opponent Josh Neer, choking his opponent unconscious. While in the clinch, Edwards would secure an arm-in guillotine. Neer was unable to break the submission while standing and would fall to his knees, eventually losing consciousness.
Diego Nunes attacked opponent Bart Palaszewski right from the sound of the bell, pressuring his opponent throughout all three rounds with punches and kicks. Despite dominating the first round, and opening up a cut on Palaszewski’s left eye, Nunes was unable to finish surviving a late triangle submission attempt. The second was much the same with Nunes peppering his opponent with strikes, landing a spinning backfist. The third had Palaszewski land stun Nunes with a left hook, but he was unable to finish letting his opponent recover. In the end, the judges would see it rightfully for Nunes by scores of 30-27, 29-28, and 30-27.
